Ego

Ego, a video game concept

During my final year in University, I wanted to see how far I could take a video game idea. I came up with EGO, a story where a girl named Cherry wakes up with amnesia and has to travel through a barren landscape with two companions to recover her memories.

My role

Concept artist / Illustrator

Final set of posters I drew showing the start, middle, and end of the game.

Initial moodboard drawings to figure out ideas and tone.

UI ideas for the menu, progress, and start screen.

Concepts for a collector’s edition box set, the storybook and logbook that come with the collector's edition, and a standard edition which has a game instruction booklet and usb drive.

Front and back artwork for game instruction booklet.

Artwork to introduce the player to the mood of the game inside the game instruction booklet.

Storybook introduction sketches and pages.

Drawing the barren world from different angles to help figure out elevation to define the area better.

Top down map of locations for interactions that happen in the world from start of the game to the end.

Tree at the top of the hill from initial moodboards and seen on the world map drawing.

Initial sketch of Cherry, the main character.

Final character design for Cherry.

Sketches of Cherry’s bedroom, furniture and home where she relives her memories.

Animals that appear in the game were selected based on their meanings when they appear in dreams. Their materials were also selected that way. The bear and lion are Cherry's main companions.

Cherry has to interact with 41 different flowers / plants on the map to regain all of her memories. Each flower / plant has a meaning associated with it which correlates to the memory it contains. There is a logbook in the game which keeps track of a players progress in the game. The collector's edition comes with a printed logbook but the names and meaning are blanked out so the player can fill it themself while playing the game.
